How We Met

I reread an old book entitled "How We Met" which made me go reminisce to the day I met my boyfriend, Toby. How did we meet? It depends on who you're asking. If you ask him, he will say that I fell in love with him when I saw him DJ-ing in 71 Gramercy back in April 2014. But if you want to hear my side, which is the truth, we go way back. As in back to our bad hair, elephant pants, yahoo messenger days a.k.a. adolescence. My cousin, Maxie, used to live in my grandmother's house, coincidentally, Toby lives in the same village. They met first and they would always hang out in my grandmother's house. I came over to visit my grandmother and Maxie introduced me to him. (Take note: I was 12 years old. No interest in boys YET!) Fast forward to almost a decade later, I went out with my friends to 71 Gramercy on a Friday night. We were a big group of people. I said hi to everyone there including Toby. We haven't seen or talked to each other since that awkward night but I still said hi anyway because I greeted everyone seated in that table and we were Facebook friends. Until now, we don't know who added who but I swear it was him. But to be honest I liked him first and I went for it. I'm a go getter. (This is my advice for you women out there. You don't have to wait for the guy to make the first move. We're in the 21st century. Women have the power to get what they want!)

Our story isn't patterned after Romeo and Juliet. Destiny or fate didn't play a part. (But I'd like to think he's my soul mate) It wasn't magical at the beginning but we're where are now today because of that night. Toby has become not just my boyfriend but my best friend. There are days when I don't like him but I choose to love him. And it's the best choice I've made in my life.
