Highlights of Singapore

It's true what they say--- the true test of friendship happens when you travel together. Just like in any relationship, when you are in a new environment, you see a different side of each other. You see how they handle the stress of getting lost around the city, you see how neat and tidy they clean up after themselves and you also see how you can continue having conversations for days long. If all the results are positive then travelling together has definitely strengthened your bond. It's a win-win situation. You get to spend time together while exploring.

Last August, I resigned from my previous job. I was in the process of job hunting and since I had free time, I thought it would be great to visit one of my best friends, Cla, in the Lion City- Singapore. This would be our very first time to travel together. We only had five days to go around because she had to go back to work. I knew it would not be enough but we were able to jam pack so many activities in those days more than most people do in weeks. See the highlights of my trip to Singapore below.

1. Yayoi Kunama Exhibit

I have visited quite a number of exhibits already but this was my first time to see an exhibit of this kind. Kusama is a Japanese artist known for her unconventional pieces. I was overwhelmed with all the installations. There was so much going on but don't forget to stop and take it all in.

2. Cafe Hopping

When I was planning my itinerary beforehand, I made sure to visit not just one but TWO cafes at least each day. I really love cafe hopping because you are sure to see something unique and quirky. You can see how the personality of the owner is injected into his/ her own cafe. Some day it's my dream to put up one too so I can have the freedom to design it however I want it to look like. It will probably be filled with the color teal (my favorite color), big windows, lots of dog accents and clean lines. 

3. Potato Head

Cla and I met up with one of our batch mates in Potato Head for dinner then drinks. It's just a small food menu. Mostly burgers then a few rice dishes but I do suggest you opt for the burger because they are to die for! Then after dinner you can go to the second floor for their speakeasy bar or go to the roof top for al fresco seating. We chose the latter and I think it was the better choice. We got to catch up on what was going on in our lives since we graduated while gazing at the Singapore sky.

4. Gardens by the Bay

It's too beautiful not to visit! You can spend just a whole day inside appreciating all the colors around yo

5. Hawker Center

If you want cheap and delicious food visit Hawker Center. There are a dozen around the city but the most popular ones are located along Maxwell Road, Tiong Bahru, and Chinatown Complex. Your Singapore experience won't be complete until you've dined like the locals.

6. Haji Lane

Even if Haji Lane is overhyped, I still think it's worth visiting. You'll never know what you'll find. My favorite store was a jewellery shop that hand made all their items and there was also vintage store that carried discontinued classic bags like Chanel, Furla and Ferragamo.
